Personal and Personnel Safety

Apart from keeping the equipment up and running, the highest priority is to protect the laboratory users, the university staff and visitors from any accident and injury.

Do not test any wires with your tongue or touch any live wires

Regard any wires as live wires

Do not operate faulty equipment, as it may endanger life. Faulty equipment must be reported to the Laboratory manage.

Additionally, the use of microwave radiation hazard meters is mandatory when conducting high power experiments, in order to limit radiation levels to which personnel are exposed and keep them within safe limits.

Ground and Earth Wires must not be removed. Although their removal prevents ground-loops (which are undesirable in some cases), they also float the respective instrument at any (high) voltage. Isolation transformers must be obtained and used where and when necessary.
